Garmin's new Edge 850 cycling computer moves the company’s mid-sized, touchscreen computer toward a brighter, more modern, and more smartphone-like experience, even if that means rethinking battery expectations. Launched alongside the Edge 550, the 850 is essentially a smaller version of the Edge 1050. It lifts the 1050’s headline ideas—a high-brightness 2.7-inch transmissive LCD, a faster processor, a built-in speaker for a realistic bike bell and spoken turn prompts, and Garmin Pay—and packages them into the classic “8-series” footprint.
