The Garmin inReach Mini 3 Plus is the most capable satellite communicator Garmin has made for hikers, with an improved display and new photo and audio messaging capabilities. It’s a compelling upgrade, though the added weight and cost are real tradeoffs. Upgraded communication. Photo messaging, voice notes, longer texts, and reliable two-way satellite messaging make emergencies and coordination far easier. Subscription headaches. Garmin’s newer plans are less user-friendly, and activation fees plus message upcharges make ownership more expensive than the sticker price suggests.
