A rearview radar will help you keep tabs on what’s happening behind you, providing alerts on a bike computer when it detects an approaching vehicle – or a faster cyclist. Originally a Garmin invention, you can now buy rearview radars from a number of other brands. They all work in the same way and are all compatible with a similar range of display devices though, as explained in our buyer’s guide below. Garmin still provides the widest range of bike radar options and it has also teamed up with Cannondale to include its radar units as part of the SmartSense system fitted to some Cannondale bikes.
